Finally, a book for the truck modeller!

One of the most impressive types of Scale Modelling are Truck models: Big, beautiful, eye-catching, they are the envy of most visitors and many fellow modellers in a showcase or contest, especially when they are professionally built, painted and detailed.

Since 1/24th and 1/25th are the most popular scales for truck kits, the size of the finished model is fulfilling but also intimidating for the not so experienced or novice.

In addition most kits of this kind include many parts, some chromed, some lacking detail and their large bodies crave an immaculate painting job.

Surely one must have a certain passion to build such kind of kits but it would be a great help if a special guide was available to the truck modeler.

For decades, truck modellers have been something of a sub-group, with very little literature to rely on and to call their own. This book remedies that and opens up a new world, hopefully to modellers new to the truck scene, and veterans alike.

Building truck kits is simply different to other subjcts and it needs a special approach in terms of adding missing details and authenticity. Therefore, it is not just about painting and assembling, but closely related to real vehicles, their design and function. Paints, tools and airbrush techniques can be found in many books. This work however, is dedicated purely to trucks and their scale replicas, providing all the information one needs.

Full-page close-ups and overall views are combined with step-by-step instructions to depict each model to its full potential.

The book aims to provide all the information necessary to complete an authentically detailed truck model. It provides five separate building chapters, each focused on different levels of information, starting with rather basic assembly of modern US tractors and slowly increasing with difficulty via a detailed modern European truck to a heavily modified classic European tractor. In addition there are chapters focused on related topics, such as light commercial vehicles and resin conversions. All in all 8 chapters plus a 9th for a lavish gallery of models, providing a wealth of inspiration.

The most prominent and principal advantage of this book is its very informative text. The author goes to great lengths in order to explain all the complexities of building, converting, painting, weathering, etc, things we cannot always fully understand by just looking at photos. In fact the text is so explanatory that we wish it would leave some more space for even bigger step-by-step WIP photos. For example we get many paint mixing details (exact colors, percentages, thinner/retarder amounts, etc), secrets regarding white and dirty white body colors, air pressure, coats, polishing and the like. The super-detailing 6th chapter will be much appreciated even by experienced modellers and generally the author’s writing style is easy to follow and his techniques useful to other aspects of (mainly car/vehicle) modelling besides trucks.

All in all a great and long needed guide about truck modelling that manages to get the reader into the author’s mind and easy-going style. After reading it one gets the feeling that can tackle a demanding truck model project with much more confidence/knowledge and will want to have this book within easy reach on his workbench. Fully recommended!
